A Poem by Brian Richter

I was standing on a hillside in a field of blowing wheat
and the spirit of a Pit bull was lying at my feet.
He looked at me with kind dark eyes, an ancient wisdom
shining through and in the essence of his being
I saw love there too.
His mind did lock upon my heart as i stood there on that day
And he told me of this story about a place so far away.
I stood upon that hillside in a field of blowing wheat
And in a twinkling of a second His spirit left my feet.
His tale did put my heart at ease, my fears did fade away
About what lay ahead of me on another distant day
“I live among God’s creatures now, In the heavens of your mind
So do not grieve for me, my friend as I am with my kind
My collar is a rainbow’s hue, my leash a shooting star
My boundaries are the Milky Way where I sparkle from afar
The are no pens or kennels here,
For I am not confined, but free to roam God’s heavens
Amongst the bully kind.
I nap the day on a snowy cloud, Gentle breezes rock me
And dream the dreams of earthlings and how it used to be.
The trees are full of liver treats and tennis balls abound,
And milk bones line the walkways, just waiting to be found.
There even is a ring set up, the grass all lush and green,
Where even Rescue Pit bulls become the Best of Breed !
For we’re all winners in this place, we have no faults, you see,
God passes out those ribbons to each one, hey, even me!
I drink from waters laced with gold,
My world a beauty to behold,
and wise old dogs do form my pride to amble at my side.
At night I sleep in an angel’s arms, Her wings protecting me,
And moonbeams dance about us, as stardust falls on thee.
So when your life on earth is spent,
And you stand at Heaven’s gate,
Have no fear of loneliness, for here you know i wait

You don’t have to love pit bulls (I can’t see why you wouldn’t, but you don’t have to!), you don’t even have to like them. What we’re asking is that you do what is RIGHT. When BSL is up for debate in your local area, shut it down!! We are sovereign individuals who DO love pit bulls and we should not suffer any discrimination because we own them. It is a matter of our culture of liberty to defend one’s right to own a pit bull whether you would have one or not. BSL is based on hatred and bigotry and it should be viewed as abhorrent to all citizens who want to call their nation free!

Banning a breed of dog is never the answer, and frankly, it is quite irresponsible. It teaches us that abuse of animals is not the problem, but rather that the animal itself is the problem. It teaches us that respecting the animal is absurd, and that the animal must behave according to our standards without any instruction or care from us. It teaches us that racist attitudes and profiling is acceptable. It demonstrates that our State and local governments reinforce these antiquated notions that one race or one breed is inherently evil, and that it is normal to pass such judgement without critically examining the reality around us.

Some people have remarked to me, “I like the pit bulls but I wouldn’t want to deal with all the negativity that surrounds them”. If you love them, be an ambassador for them! Don’t worry about the negativity that others try to force into your life. The love a pit bull gives to us is immeasurably more powerful than any insult that has ever been uttered; more powerful than any law ever written against them. Stand up for this love and do not cower away from the opportunity to embrace this love– because if you ever do get a pit bull you will surely understand it and wonder how you’ve ever lived without it.

For those who are interested in entering the Bully of the Week contest by uploading your bully photos to our facebook page, we’ve created a checklist to remember when submitting. We receive hundreds of photos a week on our facebook page and email, so we obviously can’t use every pic, but that doesn’t mean you should give up! If you’re anything like us, you take a lot of pictures of your bullies and you probably have an arsenal of photos at your disposal. Please do not get upset if your photo isn’t used right away. We love to have our wall covered in photos and we appreciate the love you all share with us every day!!

So here is the check list 🙂

  • Photo resolution. Make sure the pic is not blurry
  • Photo essence. We add inspirational or humorous phrases to the pics, so make sure your bully is “saying something”
  • The bully is the celebrity! Photos of just the dog(s) will be selected more frequently.
  • Background noise. Make sure the background is free of clutter (IE trash cans, clothes, etc)
  • Scenery. If you can get the ocean, or a beach, or the mountains, or a fresh bed of snow in the pic, it helps!
  • Humor. Bullies can do some amazingly funny stuff, catch it on camera and your odds vastly improve!
  • Uniqueness and originality. Catch them in a pose that really stands out!
  • Photo captions. Try to avoid times, dates, names, or any other writing on the pic as it may conflict with the messages we add.
  • Upload to the wall rather than email. It is easier for us to scroll through the wall than to open dozens of emails. Plus others can like, comment and share your post directly.
  • Asking to have your pic moved ahead of others will not help, sorry! 🙂

Have fun and embrace the love of the bully!

It is critical that we challenge the mass dissemination of myths, lies, misconceptions, and prejudice attitudes towards our bully breeds. Whether you are in a major pro-pit bull organization or just an individual communicating with friends, families, and neighbors, you are helping the cause. Do not forget this ever! Every time one person is turned on to how wrong the stereotypes are and how amazing these animals can be, we have achieved a victory. If someone questions your ownership of a pit bull, defend with pride, honor and love! 🙂
